Abstract
Sorting through an archival collection of a museum, library, or historical society will usually turn up a few tightly rolled or folded documents. Before they are opened, they should be placed in a humidity chamber. The moisture in the air inside the chamber added to the cellulose fibers there will relax the documents and allow them to be flattened easily without tearing.
