Abstract
The investigation described in this article was concerned with the transfer of lead, arsenic and copper from 22 kinds of paper and cellophane wrappings (used in the Polish food industry and trade) into butter, cottage cheese, marmalade and confectionery. It was found that in these foods, even if kept for many months in wrappings of high Pb, As and Cu contents, the contents of those metals did not exceed the standards accepted in Poland, i.e., Pb (2ppm), As (1 ppm), and Cu (30 ppm). The Polish standard for vegetable parchment, published in 1958, defines the maximum content of metals in this wrapping as: Pb (10 ppm), As (1 ppm), Cu 5 to 16 spots, will sufficiently protect the foods wrapped from contamination by these toxic metals.
