Abstract
Although the character of organosilicon compounds was early understood and expounded, the exceedingly varied usefulness of their water repellency in most phases of practical chemistry does not seem to have been noted by the discoverers--at least it was not mentioned. It is hoped that by widespread use of the silicones much of the menial labor of the laboratories can be eliminated and many minor improvements of method realized. This article has touched only some of the highlights. A great many other applications will surely be found as other workers try out the silicone water repellents.
