A historically important wooden chest was discovered in a neglected condition. Modern paint was removed, the technique of construction was carefully examined. Then the chest was separated into parts to enable consolidation of the wood. Missing parts were replaced with naturally aged wood. Then the wood surface was treated with a wax paste and polished. Finally the metal parts were cleaned and treated with tannin.
