A 17th-century ivory bowl, consisting of 19 parts was in a bad condition when it was acquired. An extensive scientific examination revealed a large number of fissures which were unproperly glued, large overpainted areas and traces of earlier restorations. A mixture of deionized water, isopropanol, ammonia and hydrogen peroxide was used for cleaning the surface. Loss parts, especially thin sheets of antler which were fixed on the rim of the bowl, were glued with Mowilith DVB. A solution of clove oil in isopropanol was used for the final treatment.
