For the 25th anniversary of the Foundation of Prussian Cultural Heritage a review is given of the activities of the Rathgen Research Laboratory in the field of the examination and conservation of works of art. The laboratory concentrates on the scientific analysis of inorganic materials from archaeological and ethnological objects, on dating by thermoluminescence analysis, the application of nuclear techniques in archaeometry and particular problems of conservation, mainly the restoration of historical monuments. -- AATA
