The Fichtelgebirge in north eastern Bavaria was one of the important gold producing areas of Germany. Gold occurs in native form and in the form of some rare minerals in the magmatic rocks of this area. It was mined at several places and extracted from the sands of all the rivers coming from these mountains. -- AATA
