Abstract
Describes the restoration of an 18th-century, English-made globe. Analyses determined the composition of the varnish and the coating on the globe, as well as its acidity. The globe was cleaned, disinfected, and the varnish stripped. The paper was deacidified once the half-meridians had been pulled away. The two hemispheres, first separated, were restored. The meridians were fitted back in their place and the globe was glued together again. Its restoration was completed with a few retouchings and varnishing. The horizon table and the metallic parts were also restored.
