Abstract
A brief study of the reasons why field archaeologists and historians avoid international symposia on archaeometry. The methodology of the work on Gallo-Roman amphorae as a contribution to solving the historical problem of food supply in the western Roman Empire is presented to demonstrate why such interdisciplinary studies are necessary.
