Abstract
The techniques of Arthur Dove are examined since many of his works have been tagged with incomplete or inaccurate medium designations. At an early date the artist kept records about his works and materials; although there are gaps, some entries include layer, ground, underpainting, varnish, etc. Problems that have risen with specific paintings dating from between 1926 and 1946 are discussed.
