Abstract
We introduce a method of analysis which, contrary to those used at present (XRF, PIXE), allows a global analysis of objects made of copper alloys: the activation with fast neutrons of a cyclotron. In fact, these particles pass through all metallic objects. After describing the activation method and defining the experimental conditions, we show that the method allows the nondestructive analysis down to the till parts per million level for the 10 main components of copper alloys: iron, nickel, copper, zinc, arsenic, antimony, gold, and lead. Two methods of calibration are used: one of them sets us free from the corrosion state of the object which is basic for these types of non-noble metal alloys. Several examples of analysis are given in the numismatic field. -- AATA
