Abstract
Corrosion of metal parts can occur during the interval between the manufacture of a component and its introduction into service. It is important to have foreknowledge of potential sources of corrosion and to establish methods that can control or eliminate deterioration prior to use or to the application of the final permanent protection on site. This Guide aims to explain the problem and to illustrate how temporary systems can provide total corrosion prevention and thereby reduce customer rejection and alienation. It is intended only to familiarize the reader with the subject and does not attempt to replace the more comprehensive documents quoted in the references, which may form the basis of a specification for protection. The Guide is concerned primarily with the protection of steel surfaces that are exposed to the general atmosphere, or to micro-climates that can occur within sealed packages because of temperature and humidity fluctuations.
