Abstract
Many peculiarities of bookbinding technique appear first during conservation, if the covering material has come loose or if the paper has disintegrated. It is important to record the condition and the techniques of manufacture. It is known that various masters have bound books in the printery of P. Schöffer, and therefore each new analysis of bookbinding methods and decoration can help book historians. In conservation, we follow these principles: every added material should be as close to the original as possible, conservation methods should prevent further damage, new adhesive and methods should mimic the originals.
