Abstract
This lecture aims to explain our approach to the conservation and restoration of parchment by means of practical examples which represent the various aspects involved in this work. We took examples from the many parchment restoration projects which have been performed in this workshop. In each case the parchment basis has been used in a different way: for a design in batik, a pastel drawing, an oil-painting, a map which uses a combination of techniques, and a family tree. All these forms of decoration have been applied to vellum, i. e. parchment made from calfskin.
