Account of an 1895 excavation on Marco Island includes procedure for draining site. Methods of preserving finds included using glue, shellac, and silicate of soda, all of which were inadequate. Photographs, water colors, and casts document the finds which have now crumbled to dust or warped to such a degree that they do not resemble original form. Attempts to control drying rate are also described.
