To develop efficient techniques for the preservation of miniature paintings the materials have to be studied in detail. As pigments, for instance, powdered minerals, vegetable material, insects, snails, and artificially prepared products were used and applied with different mediums. Chemical analysis has to determine the materials and, from the information obtained, new techniques of preservation can be worked out.
