The physical properties of aqueous adhesives suitable for paper conservation are discussed, with special attention given to the nature of the adhesive bond and the potential reasons for adhesive failures. Detailed instructions are given for the preparation of adhesives based on flour, starch, and methylcellulose. -- AATA
