The Ãœ3-ray induced thermoluminescence (TL) of NaAlSi₃O₈ (albite) is being investigated with apparatus which records TL emission spectra at closely spaced temperatures. The TL properties of this material have been studied both before and after several thermal treatments which induced various degrees of Al-Si disorder. Emission band peak energies, half widths, and relative intensities varied systematically with degree of disorder. Glow curves, constructed from the individual emission bands, changed significantly after thermal treatments too short to induce sufficient Al-Si disorder to be determined by x-ray powder diffraction techniques. In addition, the glow curves from both the ordered and disordered albites were found to be better described by second order kinetics. This implies an appreciable amount of retrapping.
