The technique for creating the shape and design of a sealstone (between 1600-1300 B.C. in Crete and Mycenae) are deduced from unfinished or altered seals. The reconstructed technique does not differ greatly from that employed during classical antiquity, for which there is artifactual and textual evidence. The author reconstructs the workshop and tools of a seal carver, based on archeological evidence, followed by a reconstruction of the techniques for shaping a sealstone, sketching and engraving the motif, and boring the stringhole. -- AATA
