Abstract
The dress consists of an under-dress of Tussore silk and an over-dress of white muslin. Both dresses were first treated with sodium perborate (10 g per litre). The persistent stains on the under-dress were removed with a rust-remover and those on the over-dress with hydrofluoric acid (15% solution). The dresses were then treated with polyvinyl alcohol to restore body and crispness and to strengthen the fibres.
