Abstract
A paper presented at the seminar on Museum Security, New York State Historical Assoc., Cooperstown, N. Y., July 1964. The Director and Scientific Consultant, National Conservation Research Laboratory, National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, summarizes and reviews the subject of light for museum people (non-specialists). Discusses photochemical activity of light, color temperature, fluorescent lamps, factors in deterioration, control of lighting, light measurement and aesthetics. A minimum vocabulary of light terms is provided in the appendix.
