Fossil and modern resins were investigated by x-ray diffraction. Most fossil resins gave diffuse x-ray diffraction patterns, although a few have sharp patterns. Many modern resins gave sharp, distinctive patterns. Identification was made of some of the crystalline constituents of the resins which gave sharp patterns. Some similarity was noted between patterns of fossil and modern resins, indicating possible genetic relationships. -- AATA
