Abstract

After reviewing the materials of Indian miniature paintings and the causes of infestation by microfungi a non-aqueous method for the restoration of Indian miniature paintings which was developed at the Museum and Picture Gallery, Baroda, is given. The paintings were sterilized with paradichlorobenzene vapor in a special sterilization chamber for one week, and then treated with 10 g. of chloramine-T dissolved in 25 ml. distilled water mixed with 1 litre absolutealcohol. After immersion in the solution for live hours the miniatures were dried and given a light coating of polymethyl metacrylate in tolulene.
