Soil samples from excavated sites were analyzed for heavy metal content by leaching the metals from an 0.1g. sample of earth with 5 ml. of ammonium citrate solution, adding 1 ml. of xylene, titrating with dithizone, and reading from a color scale. A contour map of heavy metal concentration was then prepared; these maps had no relation to the underground locations of the bronzes. -- AATA
