Abstract
A review of epoxy resins as used in conservation. Epoxy resins have properties which can be adjusted by the user, as well as being corrosion-resistant and essentially non-shrinking. The author uses them both as adhesives and fillers. Specific examples of problems solved with epoxy resins include glass reconstruction, glueing of a broken painting on glass, solidification of corroded metal objects, stabilization of the Dead Sea (copper) Scrolls before unwinding, making honeycomb support for a transferred fresco, impregnation of a worm-eaten wood, for casting instead of plaster, and for stabilizing the porous sandstone of the Temple of Abu-simbel. An article in English based largely on this paper appears in the CIBA technical notes, April 1967.
