Abstract
Describes the discovery, retrieval and subsequent cleaning and stabilization of two Greek bronze statues, recovered in 1973 off the eastern Calabrian coast of Italy. Treatment included examination by gamma rays; mechanical cleaning; removal of salt laden clay core with distilled water and peroxide; and local treatment with a chelating agent and fixative. A special climate-controlled display area was set up at the Reggio Calabria museum. -- AATA
