This invention relates to the vapor phase preparation of organic compounds from alkanes which are normally gaseous. More particularly it relates to the preparation of sulfonyl chlorides from the normally gaseous alkanes. Still more particularly it relates to processes of reacting the normally gaseous alkanes with a gaseous mixture of sulphur dioxide and chlorine and to the recovery of valuable components and mixtures from the reaction products.
