Radiocarbon dating has not had an easy time with the Linearbandkeramik Kultur (LBK), the early Neolithic of the loess plains of central Europe. First-generation radiocarbon dates, establishing a long chronology for European prehistory, were unwelcome as making LBK impossibly old. Newer dates, now in general harmony with the rest of Europe, are nevertheless in a less clear order than one would hope.
