Limitations to remote sensing survey for submerged historical sites are discussed with particular emphasis on magnetics. Focus is on the current disparity between archaeological research questions, practical field limitations, and jurisdictional managers' survey goals. Observations and suggestions that are a product of extensive field operations are presented.
