Abstract
Neutron activation analysis (NAA), particle-induced x-ray emission (PIXE) analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) have been used in an attempt to distinguish between late Geometric groups of pottery found on the island of Naxos, some of them decorated in a local style and some others in a foreign one. The results showed that most probably one or more common sources of clays were used for all pottery. However, the ceramic technology shows some evolution with time and differs between the groups suggesting the existence of more than one workshop.
