Stylistic and morphological analysis of the monochrome-painted carinated pottery vessels from Level 5 of Period III at Godin Tepe in central western Iran yields the definition of at least four distinct groups. Xeroradiographic and visual examination of these vessels provides evidence for the use of a variety of forming techniques which correlate with the groups previously distinguished. Consideration of contemporary vessels from the surrounding region and ethnographic data on present-day traditional pottery production and distribution demonstrates that a limited number of specialist craftsmen, possibly part-time, perhaps grouped into at least two workshops, served the Kangavar Valley.
