Abstract
This study of the Palazzo Madama in Turin begins with a survey of the materials employed in its construction. Inspection of the central fore-part of the building reveals three types of deterioration, all due to the circulation of water in the stone and to the action of gypsum. The presence of sulfates and the subsequent sulfating of the limestone is explained by the quantity of sulfur dioxide released by heating systems. Given the state of deterioration, the only treatment recommended is washing in water. -- AATA
