The reports, given during the first ICOMOS symposium (Bratislava, 1971) deal primarily with the causes for deterioration of vernacular architecture in different European countries, with measures to be taken for its protection and with the principles to be respected in conserving these buildings and ensembles. There are contributions on open air museums, in situ conservation, and the functional transformations of constructions to be preserved. -- AATA
