Abstract
A panel representing the entombment of Jesus, found at the monastery of the Franciscan Sisters in Coria, near Seville, was treated at the Instituto Central de Restauración. X-ray examinations show that several attempts to repaint the panel to suit prudish tastes had been performed. One of Jesus's hands had even been moved to his side. The hand and other details revealed by careful cleaning allowed the restorers to attribute the painting to Pedro Machuca. The work of consolidation of the panel is described. The artist's materials and techniques are discussed. -- AATA
