This paper discusses the conservation priorities in Museums in Australia. Museums are conservation-their role is to preserve material in an undamaged stable state. The main problem facing Australian museums today is the rescue of a rapidly increasing quantity of material, which as a result of decades of almost total public indifference, is literally disintegrating and disappearing, never to return. The major priorities discussed were to improve the physical side of the museum business and to create a national fund for museum-based researches.
