Abstract
Through the centuries, goldmaking has been alternately encouraged and banned by rulers and clergy, and the number of alleged transmutations is considerable. Undoubtedly, deliberate fraud or deception was involved, although often it cannot be proven from the historical accounts. With the advent of modern nuclear physics and chemistry, the alchemists' goal of transmutation has finally been realized, although the process is far from cost-effective. -- AATA
