Abstract
A simulated Roman cremation urn and an Egyptian statue have been scanned by computerized x-ray tomography (CT) to evaluate the usefulness of this non-invasive examination technique. The use of CT x-ray scanners for the rapid measurement of the widths and density variation of tree rings inside wooden objects and the derivation of dendrochronological sequences is discussed, and the possibility of non-destructive elemental analysis by this method is also considered.
