Abstract
Medical physics is concerned with the application of physical principles and techniques to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human disease. In this article the aims and development of the profession are described and the educational and organizational aspects briefly considered. An account is given of the work of a medical physicist and his contribution to the interplay between technology and medicine. The manner by which new procedures and innovations can be developed and introduced into hospital environments is discussed.
