Early work on determining the geographical origin of samples of amber is unreliable. The authors have studied the infrared spectra of sixty-nine samples of Baltic amber and fifty-one samples of other varieties. All except one of the Baltic samples showed a characteristic band which was not shown by any of the samples of non-Baltic origin. (See IIC Abstracts, 3919). -- AATA
