Abstract
The choice of bone samples for trace element analysis of excavated human skeletons is of great influence on trace element data and their interpretation with regard to the reconstruction of ancient diets and palaeoenvironment. Trace element content in bone specimens from different anatomical sites shows considerable variations even in a single individual, primarily due to different metabolic turnover rates in compact and trabecular bone. The use of compact bone from corresponding anatomical sites for trace element analyses is therefore recommended. -- AATA
