Abstract
Explores the extent of weathering as an indication of an artifact's age. New surface sensitive techniques for characterizing the behavior of some Florida chert artifacts are discussed. These include electron microprobe analysis, auger electron spectroscopy, infrared reflection spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. See also AATA 16-1623 for a discussion of electron microprobe analysis of a weathered chert.
