Abstract
A study has been made of the reaction of sodium chlorite with formaldehyde to produce solutions of chlorine dioxide suitable for paper conservation. The pH was measured during the course of the reaction using various concentrations of reagents and during the bleaching of paper. The use of sodium metabisulphite is proposed for reaction with chlorine dioxide solutions before disposal.
