Use of oxalic acid solution, a solution of disodium salt of ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, followed by dehydration in acetone resulted in successful conservation of a canvas wrapping from an iron ring on ananchor recovered from the sea. Since marine coral deposits covered the artifacts, a dilute hydrochloric acid solution was used initially to remove the concretions. Rope was processed in a manner similar to that described above. Canvas was stabilized for display purposes by coating with poly(vinyl acetate) emulsion and heat-sealed onto a light cotton fabric. See 13-912. -- AATA
