Abstract
Various processes involved in conservation of waterlogged wood in use at the Statens Sjöhistoriska Museum Wasa conservation laboratory are described including freeze-drying, the acetone-paraffin method, sucrose impregnation and sodium chloride impregnation. Though still in the experimental stage, the sugar impregnation method appears to have some advantages over poly(ethylene glycol). Also discussed are results of experiments involving poly(ethylene glycol) corrosion tests on several varieties of stainless steel and an aluminum alloy. See AATA 13-912.
