Abstract
Agents causing degradation of wood are discussed; effects of drying on degraded wood are considered; stabilization is done by partially impregnating with poly(ethylene glycol) of molecular weight 400, then freezing with crushed solid carbon dioxide and placing in a vacuum chamber so that the contained water will sublimate. Processing of an Ozette problem case at the author's laboratory, Research School of Pacific Studies, Canberra, Australia, is described and illustrated. See 13-912. -- AATA
