This bibliography is a selection of quotations from medieval authors (6th through 15th centuries A.D.) which mention the subject of textiles. It is a continuation of a previous bibliography of information on textiles from classical sources. Two pages at the beginning summarize some of the themes evident in the quoted literature. The classical tradition of females doing the sewing apparently continues into the Middle Ages. Also, most references are to upper class clothing, with a few, however, pertaining to peasant or monastic dress. Several authors comment on regional variations in clothing styles. The prices of textiles are dealt with by some authors, who give an indication that prices were sometimes grossly inflated. Some new materials for clothing were introduced in the Medieval period, especially fur, the cheapest of which was rabbit. Sanitation and standards of cleanliness in clothing are among the other miscellaneous themes addressed.
