Abstract
The distribution of the iron between the different phases in refractories produced on 1773 K from kaolinite + Fe*l2*sO*l3*s mixtures respectively from bauxites of low quality (high kaolinite content) was determined by Mössbauer method. It was found that the solubility of iron in mullite on that temperature is about 4,2- 4,6 wper thousand Fe. Using appropriate additives it is possible to modify the ration of the mullite and corundum. As the solubility of iron is greater in corumdum, compared to that in mullite, we obtained that a given iron content no separate iron-containing phase (magnetite or hematite) was formed in the refractory product.
