Abstract
The conservation of a group of five fragmentary painted mummy cloths from Roman Egypt is described. The account covers the relaxation of the linen grounds, consolidation of the fragile powdery surfaces, and the application of new linen supports using the vacuum hot-table. An analysis of the pigment and media of two of the fragments is also given.
