Abstract
The paper briefly summarizes the iconography of the 15th century chasuble, describes its state before conservation, the fabric, and the technique of its construction. The conservation treatment involved the full replacement of the medieval raised embroidery, the elimination of deformations, the removal of unnecessary cotton paddings and adhesives in order to fully preserve and conserve the original medieval needlework. A detailed report on how the fabric was woven and what kind of medieval needlework was used on the chasuble is given. Considering the exact dimensions of the garment, proposals are made regarding storage and exhibition of this art object. See also AATA 21-490 and 21-597.
