Abstract
An analytical method is described to detect the most important substances in 25 commercial water-repellents. Aluminum stearates can be identified by gas chromatography, silanes and siloxanes by gas chromatography -- mass spectrometry, and silicones by nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry. The information given by firms can be checked and long-term behavior of products may be correlated to their composition. See also AATA 19-1790.
